Academic Support

  • Academic Success Center
    • Through a coordinated approach and an unwavering commitment to student success, the Academic Success Center fosters a welcoming environment that provides a one-stop opportunity through Academic Policy, Academic Resources, and Academic Advocacy for students to achieve their academic goals and claim their future with a UMBC degree.
  • Supplemental Instruction
    • Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic support model that utilizes Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS). The SI PASS program targets traditionally difficult academic courses and provides regularly scheduled, out-of-class review sessions. The sessions are informal seminars in which students compare notes, discuss readings and develop organizational tools and predict test items.
  • Writing Center
    • UMBC’s Writing Center, located in the AOK Library, is happy to assist students with writing assignments in any UMBC course. The Writing Center is a tutoring space dedicated to helping UMBC students with writing in any class. The Writing Center offers one-on-one sessions that generally last between 30 minutes and an hour. We work with students at any stage of the writing process, so you don’t even need to bring a finished paper along. If you’re having trouble getting started, bring us your assignment sheet and spend a few minutes talking about strategies for beginning with any of our experienced tutors. If you have an outline, we can help you expand and improve on that. If you’ve got a paper written and just want to be sure it makes sense to someone else, we can help with that, too.
